Not all laptops come equipped with a full-featured USB-C port . This means that some ports provide power but do not support video input. But don't worry! To ensure that your portable monitor still works perfectly, we have a handy solution: the H5 cable .

In this blog I will explain you step by step how to connect the H5 cable. It is a one-time process, and after that you can enjoy your extra screen without any problems. Let's get started!

Step 1: Connecting the H5 cable

The H5 cable can be used in the USB-C port of your laptop. But pay attention when connecting to the monitor:

  • HDMI Port : Connect the H5 cable to the bottom HDMI input of the monitor. (This is labeled “HDMI” on the monitor itself.)
  • USB Cable : Make sure the supplied USB cable is also connected. This can be connected to one of the USB inputs on the monitor (top or middle port).

Tip: Make sure you are using the correct ports to avoid problems.

Step 2: Install Driver

For proper operation, a driver must be installed. When you have connected the H5 cable and USB cable, you will see a message appear on your screen.

  1. Open “This PC” on your laptop.
  2. Double-click the monitor icon to open the installation file.
  3. Follow the steps in the installation process.

Step 3: Check privacy and security settings

Sometimes you may need to explicitly allow access to "screen recording" or USB display in your settings. Here's how:

  1. On your laptop, go to “Settings” → “Privacy & Security”.
  2. Look for “Screen recording” (or similar options depending on your operating system).
  3. Allow the monitor to access the USB display functionality.

Important: Without this permission, the monitor may not function properly.

You can connect the 2nd screen to the HDMI (this must be in the bottom input of the monitor) + a USB (this can be in the top or middle input of the monitor)

4. How do you determine the correct connection method?

1. Check the ports on your laptop: Look for USB-C, HDMI, or USB-A ports and note which ones are available.

2. Check if your USB-C port is full-featured: You can find this in your laptop's manual or on the manufacturer's website.

This handy guide will show you exactly how to connect the Alpha Pro Portable Monitor and get the most out of your new screen.
